The only way for Wheelchair Access was with the FlexStep

Visiting Mrs Waterton’s property we were asked if there was any possible solution to achieving wheelchair access to the front entrance. Being highly recommended for our solution finding, we got to work on making wheelchair access possible.
Installation type:
FlexStep
Installation location:
Gravesend

Our site visit to Mrs Waterton’s property started with a bold statement, “You were highly recommended as you find solutions”.

We were asked if there was any possible solution to achieving wheelchair access to the front entrance of the house.

To the front of the property, there were two accesses; first was down to the basement via a set of steps and into the house through a door. The second entrance was the main entrance, from the footpath up a few steps to the main front door.

Space was limited and the existing staircase was breaking away from the existing supporting walls.

The only way we were able to achieve Wheelchair Access to the property whilst maintaining access to the basement level was by reconstructing the steps to the basement and replacing the main entrance steps with our FlexStep Wheelchair Platform Lift, which transforms into a staircase and a platform lift!

Instructing the builder, we completed the following in 8 days;

  • Removal of the existing steps to the front door
  • New block wall at basement level to support the upper landing
  • Excavated the lower path, backfilled with hard-core DPM and concrete
  • Replaced timber lintel to support existing landing area
  • Cutaway the front wall to allow for new steps down into basement area
  • Excavated existing lower steps and replaced with new flight, landing up to the pavement
  • New larger landing for the scooter to be parked
  • Top landing handrail installed
  • Railings & gate to the basement level
  • Clear Perspex banister infill
  • Rendered the new wall

After the new area had been created we were able to attend with our FlexStep Wheelchair Platform Lift and complete our installation within 1 day.
